The Saipan's sun is rather intense and the soil is too rocky but, with lots of work, nice plants are possible. These are some orchids that my wife grew around our house.

Wow! Those orchids are beautiful! Your wife must have a lot of patience. I find orchids to be some of the most difficult plants to grow.
